Award Level:

• Maximum amount of the award is $10,000. 

Award Requirements:

• Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until annual funds dedicated to this award category are depleted. 
• Award funds may be used to purchase research supplies or pay for UNMC core facility fees.
• Funds may not be used for salary.
• Funds will not be awarded directly to the applicant, but a cost center will be provided to the Financial Administrator designated by the applicant.
• Funds must be used within one year of award date. 
• Investigator must acknowledge the award in any resulting publications.

• Investigator is currently at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor at UNMC, UNL, UNO, UNK.
• Investigator has submitted an external funding application within the past 18 months that scored within ~10% of payline but was not awarded. For example, scored a 15-16% but payline is 14%. Some grants may not receive percentile ranking, and in those cases we evaluate how the impactor score compares to historically funded paylines. 
• Applicant has demonstrated financial need (no other major external award). Current R01 level funding in No-Cost Extension is allowed if this is the grant being renewed (not funded on first submission) for which the payline grant is being applied to.
• External grant application may be from federal or non-federal sources and must have an annual total budget greater than $100,000 annually for at least two years.
• Applicants may submit one application every two years.
• Projects must be focused on a topic within the scope of the Center for Heart and Vascular Research.
• CHVR member in good standing (as defined on the CHVR website and summarized below):
  • Actively participates in at least one focus group. 
  • Attend the center's meetings, seminars, review committees, retreats and related activities as appropriate. It is expected that members will attend a minimum of five events per year. 
  • List the center as an affiliation on all publications (manuscripts, reviews, book chapters), in oral/poster presentations, grant submissions and media announcements.
  • Agree to maintain an updated CHVR membership profile and complete assigned surveys regarding funding and publications within Piestar.

Selection Process:

• Applications will be reviewed by a committee.
• Preference will be for investigators who meet eligibility criteria who are active members of at least one CHVR focus group.
